Recovery plan progress in the Washington coast region

The region focuses on habitat restoration

Salmon population numbers in the region are strong, and only three populations are listed. However, regional partners recognize that more restoration work needs to be done to maintain those strong numbers. Accordingly, implementation of habitat actions has been increasing. The region also has been participating in efforts to improve hatchery programs and decrease negative impacts of hatchery-origin fish on wild fish by advocating for additional Wild Steelhead Gene Bank designations. The region also has been making progress on harvest actions by participating with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and anglers to limit the negative impacts of recreational fishing on spawning steelhead in the Hoh River.
