Harvest is Managed

Columbia River and ocean fishing are managed to minimize impacts on listed mid-Columbia steelhead, and protective regulations in the Yakima River basin prevent harvest of steelhead and bull trout. Recent years have seen increased efforts to eliminate poaching of both species. In the Klickitat, recreational limits are managed closely to allow harvest of hatchery runs while minimizing impact to listed wild fish. At this time, harvest impacts are not considered a major factor limiting the recovery of steelhead and bull trout in the mid-Columbia.
